Dolores Hidalgo
Birthplace of Mexican independence with Talavera ceramics and exotic ice cream flavors
Overview
Dolores Hidalgo is where Father Miguel Hidalgo rang the bell on September 16, 1810, launching Mexican independence with the famous "El Grito." Today it's famous for Talavera ceramics shopping and the exotic ice cream flavors in the main plaza—shrimp, beer, mole, ceviche, and more for just ~15 MXN. Located between Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, it makes for a perfect half-day trip. Flecha Amarilla buses run hourly from Guanajuato for ~80 MXN ($4.45 USD).
