Homún Cenote Route
Over 20 cenotes near Mérida—cave swimming, moto-taxi tours, and the unique Cuzamá horse-cart experience
Overview
The Homún cenote route provides access to over 20 cenotes within easy reach of Mérida, offering a more authentic and budget-friendly alternative to the crowded Riviera Maya cenotes. Located about 55 km southeast of Mérida, the town of Homún serves as the gateway to both open-air and underground cave cenotes. Local moto-taxi drivers offer tours to 3-5 cenotes for 300-400 MXN—a uniquely Yucatecan experience navigating jungle paths between swimming holes. The distinctive Cuzamá experience (nearby) transports visitors by horse-drawn cart on old henequen plantation rails to three atmospheric cave cenotes for 400-800 MXN per cart. Colectivos from Mérida's Calle 52 run to Homún for just 34 pesos. Typical entrance fees range from 50-150 MXN per cenote.
