Tlacolula Sunday Market
The largest and most authentic weekly market in the Oaxaca Valley
Overview
The Tlacolula Sunday market is the largest weekly tianguis (rotating market) in the Oaxaca Valley and one of the most authentic market experiences in Mexico. Dating back to pre-Hispanic times, this sprawling market fills the town center with vendors selling everything from produce and meats to textiles and pottery. Don't miss the famous barbacoa (slow-cooked lamb wrapped in maguey leaves)—arrive early as the best cuts sell out by noon. The adjacent 16th-century Dominican church features an elaborate gilded chapel.
